She has recently worked on commissions as diverse as creating interactive illustrations for the new digital play space at the Lyric Hammersmith, designing illustrations on silk for an Amaka capsule collection, illustrated live with Penguin Children’s Authors, created limited edition album artwork for artists including K.Anderson, illustrated set for Cardboard Citizen productions and created illustrations for brands such as The White Company. The next few months will see her illustrate live at Ted X, create illustrations for a Barbican production, and produce a series of contemporary botanical illustrations for a restaurant in Vienna, Austria.Joanna Layla combines this illustration practice with commissioned work and exhibitions (recent exhibitions include Shoreditch London & Austin Texas), tutoring illustration on Central Saint Martins short courses and working as illustrator-in-residence with Lyrix Organix.Joanna graduated with first class honours in English Language & Literature – the linguistic training sparking her interest in visual communication and developing her own visual language to illustrate a world of words.
