Daniel Connolly is a freelance illustrator and printmaker based in Lincolnshire. After his study of illustration at Plymouth University, where Daniel graduated with a first-class honours degree, he continued to pursue traditional printmaking processes; etching, engraving and mezzotint. Gaining inspiration from the ‘Old Master Prints’ and contemporary masters, Daniel utilises detailed line work coupled with painterly aquatint to interrogate a broad range of subjects and briefs, from atmospheric landscape and seascape scenes to delicate anatomical studies challenging the issues and treatment of mental health and disease.
While Daniel has a keen interest in the traditional practices, he also employs the use of digital processes to develop his imagery – cohesively uniting the hand rendered with digitally rendered textures and colour.
Daniel has created work for both editorial and publishing contexts, as well as having his work displayed in numerous exhibitions from London to Northern Ireland. Most recently, Daniel has produced book cover illustrations for Hodder and Stoughton.
