I’m Annie Ryan- a U.K based Illustrator. I started my career in Sheffield after graduating and I am now living and working as a freelancer in the lively city of Manchester.
Elongation, disproportion and texture have been the signature of much of my work. It’s fascinating to me how the anatomy of the human form in particular lends itself so well to exaggeration and modification.
I am constantly gathering images; from 1940’s mugshots to film stills as well as photographs taken in everyday life. These form the library and my ‘toolkit’ from which I can begin the manipulation process.
I also like to indulge my taste for Mid-Century objects- the design of furniture from the 50’s and 60’s for example, provokes an ideal base for my style of artwork.
My art has led me to look at the world in a different way, something that I am grateful for.
