SUMMARY:Noel Carrington: Nothing Need Be Ugly
DESCRIPTION:Curated by writer and publisher Joe Pearson (Design for Today)\, this exhibition tells the story of publishing’s unsung hero Noel Carrington (1895–1989). \nSchooled in Bedford\, Noel Carrington became one of the most influential figures in design of the 20th century. Through Puffin Picture Books and Country Life he commissioned\, edited and published some of Britian’s most loved children’s picture books. He saw the genius in artists such as Kathleen Hale\, whose series of books about Orlando the Marmalade Cat he published\, and he championed emerging artists such as Hilary Stebbing. With Eric Ravilious he published one of the finest picture books of the 20th century: ‘High Street’\, with Edward Bawden he wrote and published ‘Life in an English Village’\, and with Mervyn Peake he commissioned the tale of the wild pirate ‘Captain Slaughterboard’. \nTimings available: 11am – 5pm \nFind more information on The Higgins Bedford Organisation

SUMMARY:Louise Lockhart: Cake\, Crumbs and Lemonade
DESCRIPTION:Cake Crumbs and Lemonade is the largest solo exhibition to date by illustrator Louise Lockhart. \nInspired by the work of Mass Observation – a social research organisation founded in 1937 set up to study the everyday lives of ordinary people in Britain\, Cake Crumbs and Lemonade offers a joyful reflection on the routines and rituals of our time. From seaside strolls and fairground rides\, to lemonade labels and nights at the circus\, Lockhart captures the charm of British leisure and daily life. With a nod to Barbara Jones’s Black Eyes and Lemonade shown at the Festival of Britain at Whitechapel in 1951\, Louise has sought to reflect the interesting packaging and print ephemera that can still be found today. \nTimings available: 10am –  5pm \nThe exhibition is located in the Upper Space\, upper and lower concourse\, and Kitchen Café at YSP Centre. \nThe Upper Space can be accessed by staircase or lift\, located at either end of YSP Centre. All exhibition spaces have flat access throughout. \nFind more information on YSP’s official website.
