6th September 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 9th September 2018 @ 6:00 pm
OPENS: Sep 6th-9th, 12-6pm
PRIVATE VIEW: Sep 5th, 6-9pm (RSVP)
The Murlo Collection will be showing at Studio 9294, 90 Wallis Road, London E9 5LN from September 6-9, with a private viewing and live Q&A on the evening of September 5. Entry is free. Opening hours: 12pm – 6pm.
As a producer, Murlo has created some of the most distinctive club music of the contemporary era, releasing on labels such as Mixpak, Butterz and Glacial Sound. Last summer, Murlo began to merge his music with his visual art for a series of hand-animated A/V shows. Now, the Manchester-based artist’s work will be on display for the first time for a London exhibition presented by Red Bull Music.
Split into several parts, the collection comprises a retrospective tracing the evolution of Murlo’s artwork to date (through record covers, event flyers, sketches and beyond), alongside ‘Biolife’ – a set of brand new 2018 works.
The exhibition will also feature Coil Corner, a DIY-style space taken over by Murlo’s record label Coil Records and offering limited merch, a video lounge where attendees can watch Murlo’s animated music videos, and a live drawing showcase where guests can watch the man at work. This show also marks the very first opportunity to buy limited edition Murlo prints.
The private viewing of the exhibition on Wednesday September 5 will see Murlo discussing his art during a Q&A hosted by Red Bull Radio’s Chal Ravens, while friends will take over the music at Number 90 Bar next door. Wednesday night is RSVP only. Sign up to attend the opening night of Red Bull Music Presents – The Murlo Collection using the form below.
“I’ve basically been drawing for a lot of my life,” Murlo says of building his aesthetic universe. “By combining the things I spend so much time doing, I feel a lot more at peace with myself. Being able to kind of have creative control over every aspect – the visual and the sounds – is important to me.”
