Shopfronts of London – a talk by Eleanor Crow

December 8 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

At a time of momentous change in the high street, Eleanor Crow’s witty and fascinating personal survey champions the enduring culture of Britain’s small neighbourhood shops.

As our high streets decline into generic monotony, we cherish the independent shops and family businesses that enrich our city with their characterful frontages and distinctive typography. Eleanor will show a collection of her work (featured in a new book published by the Gentle Author) including the capital’s bakers, cafés, butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers, chemists, launderettes, hardware stores, eel & pie shops, bookshops and stationers. In this talk she will reveal the stories behind the shops, their history and shopkeepers – stretching from Chelsea in the west to Bethnal Green and Walthamstow in the east.

Tickets are £8 and can be purchased HERE
