10 years of illustration in the spotlight
From album covers to fashion and from botanical prints to book covers. The versatility of illustration is the theme of the fth edition of the Illustration Biennial. Again, the Toneelschuur in Haarlem will be the meeting point for illustrators, clients, art-directors, publishers and anyone interested in illustration and graphic art.
In the Toneelschuur, 27 May 2017 at 11:30 – presenter Jellie Brouwer (Radio Kunststof) will interview among others the Ukrainian fashion illustrator Masha Reva, the illustrator Ludwig Volbeda – recently awarded the Grand Prix in Bratislava – and Claudie de Cleen, known for her fun editorial work. In the large hall illustrators will talk about their work. Other activities will take place in the foyer and in the theatre cafe.
There will be an exhibition of album covers especially designed for this edition of the Illustration Biennial by 11 illustrators.
ILLUSTRATION TREASURE-TROVE
The biennial festival offers inspiration and diversity. ‘Illustration is an umbrella term for a wide-ranging discipline. There is a treasure-trove full of images, from which we select several things each time. This jubilee edition will also show that diversity,’ says Marlies Visser, graphic designer and founder of the Illustration Biennial.
‘The past ten years we have seen a growing interest in illustration. It would be wonderful if we could create a permanent exhibition space for the originals and sketches in the future. We’re currently trying to nd partners for that.’
