April 1 @ 9:00 am - April 4 @ 3:00 pm
The Bologna Children’s Book Fair is one of the biggest events in the publishing year’s calendar built around children’s content.
Publishers, illustrators, literary agents, authors, translators, licensors and licensees come to the event each spring to experience the business world of books and multimedia products! This year’s guest of honour country is Switzerland bringing new exhibitions and events to the busy programme of BCBF2019. If you’re into publishing it’s unmissable!!
The world famous Illustrators Exhibition and industry recognised BolognaRagazzi awards are some of the key pillars that make the event. With more than 26,000+ people taking part in 4 packed days of events, it is a unique mix of a cultural book show and an international rights business forum for all types of content for children.
AOI’s Georgia Luckman and Derek Brazell will be present at the Fair, giving talks for illustrators on Publishing Contracts, Self-Promotion for Children’s Book Illustrators and offering advice on the business (come and say hello). AOI will be based at the European Illustrators Forum stand, near the Illustrators Survival Centre, and we will be joining all those going to the ‘Illustrators Dinner’ due to be held on the Tuesday evening. Watch out for more details here!
Attending the Bologna Fair can be a great opportunity, but we’re aware it can be difficult for illustrators to get their work in front of art directors at the busy Fair. So we’ve got together with some of the top book publishers to offer AOI members a guaranteed portfolio review with an art director for appraisal and advice.
We have Chris Inns, Art Director for Picture and Gift Books and Two Hoots at Macmillan Children’s Books, and Joanna McInerney, Senior Commissioning Editor at Nobrow/Flying Eye, Rebecca Garrill at Anderson Press will be seeing AOI members at the Fair.
For the opportunity for a consultation email [email protected] with a link to your website by 1 March with the subject line ‘AOI Bologna portfolio consultation’. There are a limited number of slots, so get your applications in quick as we’re not able to guarantee availability.
Tickets range from €38.00 – €92.00
Top tip: Reduced tickets can be bought by illustrators (please write to [email protected])
Early Bird Tickets are available until March 1st
