An AOP & AOI DEBATE “Perfect Commissioning: Let the Good Terms Roll”

29th October 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The UK’s creative industries are a global success story, particularly in the arena of image-making, advertising and marketing. We lead the way in creating not only inspirational, but successful, global advertising campaigns for many of the best-known brands.

In a global market, clients need change and as a result so do commissions. From the increasingly familiar request ‘to make it move’ to the shift in licensing patterns towards copyright buyouts, our industry is changing.

Commissioners and creators rely on each other and a successful commission (in terms of both process and product) – is truly joyful. However, even the best-laid plans can sometimes go awry.

The Association of Photographers and the Association of Illustrators invite illustrators and photographers, commissions and clients, to come together to look at how we can ensure a vibrant, thriving future for all of us.

In this session, our guest Lu Howlett, Head of Art & Photographic at Iris Worldwide, Daniel Moorey, Head of Photography and Illustration at adamnandeveDDB, Mat Wiggins, Group Art Director at Ink Global and Jon Cockley, co-founder of Handsome Frank will join AOP and AOI business and legal advisers, Nick Dunmur and Derek Brazell. Also on hand will be Ren Renwick, Managing Director AOI and Seamus McGibbon, Executive Director AOP.

To explore…
• What elements make up a good commission and successful result?
• What makes a good creator and creative process for that commission?
• Where and why do things come unstuck?
• What are the fair terms, licence agreements and remuneration for that work?

Following the discussion there will be an opportunity to mingle with colleagues.

Places are strictly limited, book your £10 ticket here
