Now in its second year, the Klaus Flugge Prize celebrates picture book art and is awarded to the most promising and exciting newcomer to children’s picture book illustration. At this special event, two of the illustrators shortlisted for the 2017 Klaus Flugge Prize will discuss their books, illustration styles and their journey to publication. It will be chaired by Klaus Flugge Prize judge and Sunday Times children’s books editor Nicolette Jones.
This is an unmissable event for anyone interested in children’s book illustration or keen to pursue a career as an illustrator.
Emma Lewis is an illustrator living in London. She studied at Falmouth University and Camberwell College of Arts and is inspired by folk art and Scandinavian design. The judges described her book The Museum of Me as an interesting and visually exciting book, and praised her skilful use of collage.
Francesca Sanna grew up in Italy and is currently based in Zurich, Switzerland. The Journey has been translated into 14 languages, and has been awarded the gold medal of the Society of Illustrators (US) and the Premi Llibreter (Spain). It was shortlisted for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and won the Amnesty CILIP Honour. The judges found The Journey highly original in both style and content, and described the interplay between text and illustration as superb.
