Why did you choose to enter this work?
It was my most recent self-initiated project at that time and reflects my continued search for connection to the natural world.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I have always enjoyed reading about strong girl characters and wanted to create one. The chicken is maybe a more unusual animal companion but I love chickens and think they should be appreciated more!
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
It gives me confidence that I am on the right path.
Where do you usually work?
I work from home at my big desk, surrounded by lots of art materials and my laptop. But I like to carry a sketchbook with me wherever I go.
How long did it take to complete your project?
From idea to finish it took me around 3-4 weeks.
What is your dream commission?
I have a list of children's book publishers I would love to work with.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Anything that interests me.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Be authentic, enjoy the journey as much as the results and be aware of your responsibility.
What are your plans for the future?
Continue on my illustration journey, grow, rewild, connect, play and see what the future brings.
