2024 | Longlist + Shortlist | Children's Publishing

Preferred Pronoun?
Her/She

Why did you choose to enter this work?
This project has been very important to me as Lila's Sacher story really resonates with my own wishes as a little girl and I've always dreamt about going on an adventure to the North!

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I love working in black and white as it makes me focus more on the narrative of the images. I enjoy immersing myself in a world of shadows and lights and textures that feel alive.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
That it's an amazing opportunity to have a window open to the world where hopefully some publisher might feel they would like to work with me in similar projects.

Where do you usually work?
I work in my garden shed office, surrounded by trees and plants. You can see here at my studio some of the materials I've used and how I work. Also, some inspirations up on the wall.

How long did it take to complete your project?
It took me about five months.

What is your dream commission?
A story that inspires me and gives me freedom to be brave and explore new ideas.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I find drawing plants really relaxing.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Keep drawing and exploring no matter what and most importantly, do it for yourself. Have fun.

What are your plans for the future?
Making more books and writing more stories. Fingers crossed it carries on being my full time job!
