2024 | Longlist + Shortlist | Exploration

Preferred Pronoun?
He/Him

Why did you choose to enter this work?
I chose this piece of work as it focuses on a topic that I'm passionate about and one that I often try to bring awareness too; environmental sustainability.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I like how its managed to promote sustainability whilst also being visually playful. Plus there's always satisfaction in a animation that loops smoothly!

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
Its great to receive recognition for my work and reassuring that I'm making work that has value. I'm also grateful for my work being shared with others and the opportunity to make new connections.

Where do you usually work?
I work from home for the majority of the time and my practice fits pretty neatly into a desk space. Once I have a sketch I move onto layout paper and a fine liner, then over to my mac and a wacom.

How long did it take to complete your project?
I usually finish an illustration from concept to final over a couple of days, although with this being animated, I'd say another day or so on top.

What is your dream commission?
I'd love to be commissioned for more projects that bring awareness to sustainability, as well as anything food or gardening related!

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
People doing things! I always try to incorporate figures, usually carrying out a task together, into my illustrations, whether thats gardening, going to the shops or having a meal together.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
I'd say to develop a good work ethic and rely on discipline rather than waiting for inspiration. Show up, put the time in and keep making work that you're passionate about.

What are your plans for the future?
Work wise, I'd love to make more connections with clients and other illustrators. Outside of that, I'm tending to my veg patch of marrows, which are doing pretty well with all the rain this summer!
