Lucille Clerc
RHS HILLTOP The Home of Gardening Science - Mother Nature

Site Specific

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
Based on previous personal representations of Nature nymphs and spirits, I was commissioned to create a set of illustrations for the RHS Hilltop research center at Wisley Botanical Gardens. The exhibition demonstrates the benefits of gardens for wellbeing and gives tips for creating garden spaces that improve the natural environment in a changing climate.

How was the illustration used:
The small botanical illustrations are printed on wood and the main one is a transparent mural engraved on glass, to ornate panels separations within the permanent exhibition.

How did you make this work:
Each element was drawn by hand in pencil on paper at a very large scale and assembled digitally to produce a 4x2meters illustration (for the main one), then screen printed on wood and engraved on glass. From close ones sees a mix of very detailed botanical illustrations picturing wild and domestic plants entwined. From far, this collection constitutes an imaginary non-gender silhouette of Nature.
