United Nations World Toilet Day stamps

Design Product & Packaging

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
A set of 3 stamps commissioned by the UN for World Toilet Day - one for each of their offices. WTD celebrates toilets, raising awareness of the billions of people living without access to safe sanitation. This year they highlighted how the lack of a safe toilet, particularly for girls, is a proven barrier to education. At least one stamp had to show a toilet.

How was the illustration used:
Each stamp depicts one positive outcome of safe sanitation.

How did you make this work:
Carefully planned in drawings, the final execution is all made in paper. First I chose a palette of papers to work across all 3 images, then I cut the required shapes with a scalpel and curved, scored, embossed and glued the various pieces to form the elements of each image. I photographed each part and used Photoshop to accurately place the elements in the final composition of each illustration.
