Octavie Wolters
The Starling's Song - a picturebook for children and adults

Children's Publishing

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
Ploegsma Publishing asked me to make a book with my linocuts of birds. It was a quest how to transform my autonomous graphic work into a story with characters and interaction. To preserve the artistic look and feel of my work and also make it a warm and moving document.

How was the illustration used:
A book for both children and adults. It wants the reader to think about how beautiful our world is. The starling wants to sing a song about the beauty of everything and asks all the birds to help him.

How did you make this work:
Linocut technique, hand printed with ink. Carved in a large format, digitally sized down for use in the book. The starling’s beak and paws are coloured in orange/yellow by hand.
