Yehrin Tong
Return Match

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
I was briefed to illustrate the short story Return Match by Philip K. Dick. The protagonist is drawn to a pinball machine that is planted and rigged by aliens to lure and kill humans. I shaped the pinball machine into an image of a skull and juxtaposed it with a saccharine colour palette, inspired by video games, to highlight the fatally addictive nature of the game.

How was the illustration used:
The work was used within a special edition of The Complete Short Stories by Philip K. Dick. The illustration was animated so I could bring the piece to life on my website and social media.

How did you make this work:
Initial sketches were drawn in photoshop, then the final piece was drawn in illustrator. The image was layered so that the final illustration could be animated.
