Why did you make this work:
Our interest lies in the way people inhabit spaces, and The Kusina came at a time when we were exploring our collective style that reflected this. The artwork comes from a series of room illustrations based on a Filipino home in London which we later developed into our first zine.

How was the illustration used:
The illustration was used in our zine, A Love Text to Ma, and was then reworked at the end of the year for a competition submission.

How did you make this work:
We created a list of objects and stories relating to our home experiences in a Filipino kitchen. We then drew the foundations of the room in a 3D-modelling software that we used as a base to illustrate on. Working as a duo allows us to split the work and complete sections of the drawing separately before bringing it together for the final touches of colour, texture and shadows.

Biography:
We are raya ltd. is a Filipina-British creative duo specialising in illustration, branding and 2D animation led by Roxanne Gonzales and Anna Marie Cabanlig. Since graduating from The Bartlett School of Architecture in 2019, they have continued to work together and are best known for imagining real-life spaces into playful illustrations through colour, pattern and hidden easter eggs.
