I volunteer with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, and have realised how few people know that there are hundreds of bee species in the UK, and that they all need our help, not just honey bees. I wanted to inspire more understanding of, and interest in, our amazing bumblebees, and raise funds for the Trust - I donate 10% from sales. Shown are queens of all 16 current UK species of social bumblebee.
How was the illustration used: The full design is for sale as original prints and organic tea towels, with recycled greetings cards of the individual bumblebees, all sold through my own shop and independent stockists
How did you make this work: The original print is a large-scale (approx 42x72cm) linocut, with monoprinted colour, on sustainable lokta paper (this version, for tea towels and posters, is a linocut with digital colour, Latin names and logo). The species' were meticulously researched for accurate markings, scale and flower preferences and, where relevant, they're positioned roughly where they might be found in the UK.

Biography:
Becca is an experienced illustrator and printmaker based in Bristol. She works mainly in linocut, and loves to work with themes of wildlife, history, folklore and food. Over the last 15 years she's illustrated for a wide variety of clients, including BBC History Magazine, The Folio Society, Thames & Hudson, Waitrose FOOD, Yale University Press and The Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
