Georgie McAusland
Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
The illustrations were created to accompany the long form poem “Goblin Market” by Christina Rossetti. I was given the brief by Batsford Books, and was so excited to make work to accompany this very visual allegorical poem, that has been previously illustrated by Gabriel Dante Rossetti, Arthur Rackham and Laurence Housman, amongst others.

How was the illustration used:
The illustrations were used in a book, to accompany the poem “Goblin Market”.

How did you make this work:
I made this using gouache and watercolour. I made textures using mono print with ink and oil to create interesting results, which I then used to create the Goblins and other parts of the scenery. Most of the images were created wholly on paper, but some were stitched together on photoshop when I wanted to make changes.
