New TalentWhy did you make this work:
Produced during my final year of university, this project gave me the freedom to create my own brief. The purpose was to confront racial issues that are present on and off screen to an audience who are unaware or unwilling to notice. Racial inequalities are deeply rooted into society and impact who is making the content we see, an issue I confront within the credits of each illustrated poster.
How was the illustration used: The purpose of this work was simply to raise awareness on issues we otherwise ignore or don't see. In theory, my aim would be for this work to be viewed as a public campaign.
How did you make this work: Although all the final pieces are digital illustrations, I wanted to take inspiration from the traditional art form of printmaking such as lino and screen printing, as well as adding hand made textures over the illustrations to create more depth. Based on my research into each topic, I came up with a creative name that informed the general composition of my posters in a clear and clever way.

Shadz is a Black British-Nigerian freelance illustrator based in London.
Having graduated from the University of Lincoln with a first class degree in Illustration, she is now operating as a freelancer designing film/tv posters, logos and illustrating portraiture.
