Isabel Seliger
Murmuration / Illustrations on "Der Zorn des Oktopus" a sci-fi and climate-change thriller

Editorial

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
I got requested by Territory, the agency responsible for DB Mobil, the magazine of the German Railways, to illustrate an excerpt of "Der Zorn des Oktopus", a sci-fi/climate-change thriller and the new book by Dirk Rossmann and Ralf Hoppe. They requested one lead illustration and 3 secondaries. The dimensions of the illustrations were fixed but otherwise I had complete creative freedom.

How was the illustration used:
The illustrations were printed in the magazine of the German Railways and appeared online as well.

How did you make this work:
I read the text and quickly decided which scenes I wanted to draw. I did b/w sketches in Photoshop and sent 4 options for the lead, 1 for the first secondary and 2 each for the third and fourth illustration. I drew the final lines in Procreate on my iPad Pro and did the colours in Photoshop on the iMac. I only had to make small changes in the lead illo. The swarm had to be larger and darker.
