Why did you make this work:
I was commissioned by Quarto to create illustrations for 'Atlas of Record-Breaking Adventures': a large format non-fiction children's book highlighting extraordinary sights and events from around the globe. Divided by continent, the book follows two main characters as they adventure to different places - marvelling at sights such as the world's fastest bird and the longest ever lightening storm.

How was the illustration used:
As a book cover and series of inside spreads, forming part of the 96-page children's picture book 'Atlas of Record-Breaking Adventures'. This was published in October 2020 by Quarto's non-fiction imprint Wide Eyed Editions.

How did you make this work:
For each spread I was given a brief artwork outline, plus text captions and a list of items to include. I’d create a rough sketch based on all of these elements, embellishing scenes here and there with my own playful touches. Each individual element was then painted by hand with coloured inks and scanned in to my computer. The final images were pieced together and edited in Adobe Photoshop.
