Kata Máthé & Dóra Matyus
Domestic Child Abuse

Editorial

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
We were commissioned by noÁr, a Hungarian actor-activist who raises his voice against burning societal issues in Hungary. The level of domestic violence has increased during lockdown and we, together with noÁr wanted to raise awareness of this issue and also of the help available for the kids in need. This is why the song's title is the phone number children can call.

How was the illustration used:
The animation appeared on many places on social media, there was a plenary session organized around the topic and many interviews and it’s still available on youtube (you can choose English subtitles) and on noÁr’s website (https://noar.hu/gyermekbantalmazas/)

How did you make this work:
We received the song and we got artistic freedom to work with it. We were aiming to show the effect of violence and abuse on the child and we intended not to show violence directly so as not to ftraumatize the viewers with images they might not be ready for but rather to recall related memories and emotions. It was important show that help is available. Réka Kassay animated our drawings.
