Broadway Market - a celebration of multicultural independent shops in London

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
The publisher and I wanted to create a book that would contrast the Brexit climate. Through depicting the food stalls and shops on high streets in our neighbourhood, we focused on how much our everyday life is surrounded and impacted by London's cultural diversity. The concertina format becomes a market square giving the book a three-dimensional effect where readers could immerse themselves in.

How was the illustration used:
internal pages, cover, overall project

How did you make this work:
Original illustrations were drawn digitally, coloured in with scanned paper textures in Photoshop. The book was printed at Swallowtail Print in Norwich, and assembled in a specifically designed folder together with people figures and a card game. Die Cut is designed to achieve the unique shapes of the independent shops and stalls. The dimension is 16 x 14 x 2cm when it is placed in a folder.
