Elena Margherita Furini
Re-establishing a sacred place of peace where there was an ancient abandoned votive capital

Site Specific

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
I wanted to renovate a site that had been abandoned for several years, near an ancient Sanctuary of ‘500 and a natural pond. The Mayor of Peschiera del Garda (Verona, IT) has authorised the restorations to be carried out while I was preparing the painting for the votive capital. The site has now returned to being a place of worship.

How was the illustration used:
The painting is the main image of the votive capital, the size:143 x 79 cm.

How did you make this work:
The artwork is acrylic painting on board. It depicts the Holy Mother as rescuer and giver of graces, one with tree of Fraxinus ornus, called "manna tree". The thaumaturgical meaning of the Ash tree, which is also referred as ‘Yggdrasill cosmic tree’ is related as the axis and support of the World. The other herbs represented in the background are connected with the place of healing.
