Andrea Innocent
Dear Fiction - a love letter to books

Exploration

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
Whilst enduring one of the longest lockdowns in the world I came to have a new appreciation for books, fiction in particular, these images are just a part of a larger body of work which is my homage to all the fiction I have read over the years.

How was the illustration used:
The illustration was used on my personal social media accounts and printed as a zine for a local zine fair 'Festival of the Photocopier'.

How did you make this work:
Initial sketches and final art were created on an ipad pro using Procreate. I have only just begun to create some works this way as previously I would sketch traditionally and use Photoshop or Illustrator to complete, I appreciate the mobility the ipad gives me as I can work while parenting or sitting in the garden.

Biography:
Innocent has been illustrating for over 15 years. She currently lives and works on Wurundjeri land, in the forests of the Dandenong ranges. Her work is inspired by her time in Japan, her young sons brilliant stories and her own childhood where she either had her head in Miffy and Richard Scarry books or was exploring nature with her dogs.
