Ben Tallon
YA MUM and Other Stories from the Backstreets of Britain

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
I grew up in Keighley, a gritty, working class West Yorkshire mill town. My love of storytelling attracted me to the rich (and dubious) local characters, the underappreciated and overlooked aspects of my society; litter, graffiti, abandoned buildings and mattresses. YA MUM is the culmination of years of observation, lived and heard experiences of the lesser celebrated pillars of Britsh sub culture

How was the illustration used:
21 of the most commonly seen abandoned items on British streets were used to accompany the 21 short stories, flash fiction pieces and poems throughout the book and in the accompanying art print.

How did you make this work:
All illustrations are created by hand, using indian ink, dip pen and a range of brushes.
