When this story was shown to me, I immediately fell in love with it. I knew straight away that it was an outback story, a small rural town, possibly in the north west of Australia. I knew I was going to delve into red earth tones and blue skies and it was going to be great. I had a lot of fun experimenting with these tones, the rock and wood textures of western Australian landscapes.
How was the illustration used: Childrens Picture Book
How did you make this work: I took inspiration from the wilderness around Perth, where I grew up, mixed with images from the Kimberly region which the Author provided. Finding the characters was the trickiest part, but with the publisher's help and a lot of trial and error we found our little team of children for this adventure. The artwork was made with watercolours and coloured pencils.

Biography:
Felicita is a self-taught illustrator and painter. She graduated in philosophy from the University of Western Australia. She has illustrated many picture books, contributed her art to magazines and newspapers, and has also worked on papercut stop-motion animations. One of her books was included in The New York Times’ Best Illustrated Picture Books of 2018, and in 2020 she won the Premio Andersen award in Italy for best illustrator. She loves to travel and can speak four languages, but wishes she could speak Japanese. Felicita lives in Rome with her husband, Gianluca, and their daughter, Nina.
