Gosia Herba
Series of illustrations for Stanislaw Lem's "Fables for Robots": "Tale of the Computer That Fought a Dragon" and "Uranium Ears"

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
At the invitation of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, I illustrated two short stories for the Polish-Estonian edition of Stanisław Lem's 'Fables for Robots'. I chose my two favourite fairy tales by the author: "Tale of the Computer That Fought a Dragon" and "Uranium Ears".

How was the illustration used:
The illustrations were used in the book "ROBOTITE MUINASJUTUD" by Stanislaw Lem, published in Estonia by PÄIKE JA PILV 2021.

How did you make this work:
I drew the sketches with a pencil on paper, scanned them and continued working in Photoshop. I drew the illustrations on Wacom Cintiq, combining traditional and digital techniques. I used hand-made textures and patterns along with digital brushes. I wanted to capture the retro-futuristic atmosphere of Lem's literature by using a limited colour palette, simple shapes, and rough textures.
