Why did you make this work:
This story came from a memory of when I was a child. I found a beetle pupa moving in a hole in the ground; I didn't know what it was at all, so I was fascinated and scared at the same time. After that, I thought of that weird creature for many days. The Bug Hotel is written for that girl who found the beetle and feels curious about the world hidden between the grass, the ground, and flowers.

How was the illustration used:
The illustrations are part of a 34 pages children’s book.

How did you make this work:
These illustrations are made with gouache paint and wax pastels on mixed media paper. I find working with traditional media very relaxing, almost therapeutic, it makes me feel closer to that child I was once.

Biography:
Manu was born in Medellín, Colombia, in 1990.  She studied Graphic Design and Advertising in her hometown and Art Direction in Barcelona, where she actually lives. She grew up both in the city and the country and spent most of her childhood drawing, playing with plants, animals and exploring the woods.
