Lucie Langston
Rising Pandemic — Rising Debt

Editorial

Commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
I was asked to work on the rising debt due to the pandemic, especially concerning the elderly: focusing on the rising demand for public debt consultation based on the experience of a retired woman who lost her mini-jobs due to the pandemic, forcing her to ask for government aid for the first time. I belive social problems like dept, addiction, mental health etc. should become more visible.

How was the illustration used:
It is an editorial illustration for the BISS Magazine, Munich’s newspaper for the homeless. The article was on the rising debt due to the pandemic especially concerning the elderly who can no longer make ends meet.

How did you make this work:
This is a two-layered illustration created digitally on my IPad with an Apple Pencil and the procreate drawing app. It is most important to me to translate my analog color pencil style into the digital world without loosing authenticity. In addition my layering technique works very similar to the screen printing methods. The two colours of black and a special red was a specification by the client.
