Tangerine and the Real Flower

Children's Publishing

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
Tangerine was meant as a personal creative challenge. The story focuses on a fragile attempt to make sense of an outside, alien world. It also talks about finding the courage to explore the unknown in search for meaning and companionship. The need to visually express these feelings came from watching "Espacios", a short movie part of the Netflix “Homemade” series.

How was the illustration used:
The illustrations are part of a personal project which I intend to publish independently and then enter it in a national book competition. It will have 14 illustrated spreads and some other typographic, mixed media inserts. The purpose is to make it not only an illustrated story, but my first serious attempt at book design.

How did you make this work:
The illustrations are entirely digital – they were created on my iPad, using Adobe Fresco, and were lately edited using Adobe Photoshop. The narrative itself was born on a notebook with soft, orange covers, where I just wrote the main ideas I wanted to illustrate.
