Book Covers

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
To pay homage to Stephen King’s outstanding writing, I started a personal project to illustrate the covers of three of my favourite books. I designed each cover to embrace some of the more alluring imagery and themes from the text. For example, the flies in this illustration refer to the theme of impending death.

How was the illustration used:
This illustration was designed to be a part of a series of book covers.

How did you make this work:
I used the medium of layered paper-cutting for this illustration. I drew out my preferred composition before deciding on colour, purposefully choosing bright colours to contrast with the tumultuous themes of King’s Books. Next, I cut my design out using a craft knife before scanning each layer of paper into Photoshop, this is where I added Type and applied the finishing touches.
