Eli Babajanov
Wild Trance

Exploration

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
The project is a wild interpretation of the scientific, restrained attitude in botanical illustrations. I wanted to take the dislocated flower and relate it to its habitat. I used the most familiar nature I know: the Mediterranean animals in their daily struggle, expressing the burst of life, death, survival, and passion.

How was the illustration used:
The illustrations were exhibited in several galleries and events in Tel-Aviv.

How did you make this work:
The process began from sketching with references of botanical illustrations. I gave up on the realistic anatomy of the animals to create a more fluid and dynamic composition. To enrich the illustration I made some loose patterns from local plants and props. I worked with color separation to prepare it for print. Finally, the illustration was printed in Risograph to maximize the saturation.
