Alice Mollon
A Closet In The Cloud

Editorial

Why did you make this work:
This illustration was commissioned for an article in Vogue on the growing popularity of online clothes rentals. No longer just for special occasions and event dressing, the rental model has rapidly expanded to everyday wear too. Now, an increasing number of platforms offer access to a forever-refreshing, shared wardobe, providing a more sustainable and affordable alternative to fast fashion.

How was the illustration used:
Printed 2/3 to full page size alongside the article, in the May 2019 print issue of Vogue Spain.

How did you make this work:
I started with quick thumbnail sketches exploring how to communicate the idea of a wardrobe that was shared, yet not too transient or throwaway. I then narrowed these ideas down to 4 refined sketches to show the client, accompanied with brief explanatory notes. Once they’d picked their favourite option, I created a final colour version using a Wacom Cintiq Pro in Adobe Illustrator.
