West Cork Podcast - Live Event

Why did you make this work:
Jennifer Forde and Sam Bungey contacted me to design some backdrops for the live show of their West Cork podcast. They wanted something character driven. After listening to the show I recommended we focussed in the background where everything happens (which also carries the title of the podcast) So that the graphics didn't compete with the show (centered in the characters) but complemented it.

How was the illustration used:
The images were projected on a large screen at the back of the speakers and musicians, setting the tone for the event. Images here: https://www.goldenplec.com/galleries/cork-podcast-festival/

How did you make this work:
You can hear the landscapes in the podcasts so I wanted to be very organic. I made all the illustrations creating multiple monoprints that I later collaged and composed in Photoshop. I layered every element so I could then manipulate it in After Effects where I gave those textural shapes very subtle animation (sky moving with the wind, lighthouse beam...)

Biography:
Born in Granada (Spain) and living in rural Ireland, I have been a self-taught full-time illustrator since December 2003. Over the years I’ve worked in almost every area of illustration: event posters are probably my favourite discipline. I’ve been lucky enough to have my work recognised by the likes of Communication Arts, 3x3, Illustrators Ireland and the AOI. I have also been an AOI member since 2010.
