With this project I bring to life my Polish family’s recipe ‘book’ - a collection of hand-written notes, fragments of books and newspapers. It suffered a fraught journey from Poland via a Siberian concentration camp, India and Iran, before miraculously making it safely to England. I hope to celebrate Polish culture, and give voice and vindication to those living in the UK with Polish heritage.
How was the illustration used: Book cover for a hybrid recipe-story-history book based on a Polish family, who became refugees in WWII and later found safety in the UK. The book captures their recipes and snapshots of their subsequent lives and generations.
How did you make this work: Copies of the original recipe collection and family photos were used as the collage material. The collage was assembled by hand, using layers and different heights to create depth, and then photographed in dusty sunlight to create the final image.

Biography:
Illustrator/Designer currently studying in Barcelona. Originally from Yorkshire, graduated from BA Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. Cecelia loves to stretch the idea of illustration into 3D, and sees anything around her as a material! When she’s not cutting, sticking or raiding the garden, she's walking the dog or picking strawberries.
