Why did you make this work:
There is an old wives' tale that tells us the relationships we have are all connected through a string we cannot see. I wanted to bring this tale to life through vibrant colours for all ages, as a reminder of the relationships we have with our people, throughout the phases of our lives.

How was the illustration used:
Picture book portfolio ready for submission to publishers and agents.

How did you make this work:
Both illustrations are through mixed medium, using gouaches, soft pastels and colour pencils. The story I am depicting is for all ages. To accommodate this, I chose soft, vibrant colours with the adaptation of fun elements to engage the younger age audience while presenting a deeper meaning to wider readers.

Sally is an aspiring picture book artist based in Sydney, Australia. She is passionate about depicting messages and stories to children through illustration. Sally won the gold medal for the 3x3 International Illustration Award 2017, Picture Book category.
