The Book of Time

Why did you make this work:
When author Kathrin Köller approached me with the idea of creating a book of time for children I was absolutely fascinated by the idea of finding images that would transport abstract ideas as well as speak to children and adults alike. Whether it be an elephant clock, a time machine or a sun devouring jaguar, I had to come up with detailed illustrations that would also touch readers emotionally.

How was the illustration used:
Book cover and 175 illustrations. As has been pointed out in various reviews the illustrations served to open up readers for philosophical questions and enabled them to enjoy time.

How did you make this work:
First I developed a consistent color concept for the whole book. Before I started I studied textures, materials, patterns to then create lively illustrations with a lot of patina, however always with a touch of lightness. The techniques I employed consisted of Polychromos pen, mixed media and photoshop.
