Grace Lanksbury
Forget Me Not

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
I wanted to tell the stories of our senior citizens, highlighting the amazing lives that they have lived. My aim was to raise awareness for the fact that as you age society begins to treat you as if you are redundant, forgetting that they have these incredible stories that have impacted our lives today. Inspired by real people, each story is the result of interviews and people’s family stories.

How was the illustration used:
The Illustration was used for my final project of university. As a book, my intention is to have it published as a graphic novel.

How did you make this work:
The work is all digital, made primarily in Procreate and Photoshop, using an Ipad to allow for a more hand-drawn effect. I always start with a colour palette, which in this case was heavily inspired by WW2 posters. From there I begin building up an image, playing with the colour, and eventually adding texture to add more depth to the finished illustration.
