Zeb and the Bungle Bee of Death

Why did you make this work:
My style felt fragmented for years. Various illustration styles that in my mind worked together but never locked step. I started the project to bring it all together, showing how the differing approaches could create a language of styles. It immediately felt like I was onto something and became clear that the piecing together of the whole was just as important as the individual styles.

How was the illustration used:
I had always intended to keep it as an experiment and perhaps also use it as portfolio pieces and therefore never picked a "medium". In my mind, however, I had always liked the idea of it becoming a board game but not for traditional purposes but rather to share ideas that perhaps don't fit into linear storytelling - kind of like an interactive comic book.

How did you make this work:
I sketch all of my work to come up with the basic ideas of the icons/characters/text-layouts. I never plan a single big piece, but rather focus on the small elements that create a larger idea and then try to make sense of it. I love the way that icons can represent bigger ideas and become stanza's of a larger piece. After I recreate my sketches in vector I take time to focus on the layout too.
