Why did you make this work:
This is a special commissioner, she is a mom knew me from my ins. She received a very warm letter from her 9years boy then she wrote him back. She would like to have some illustrations accompany with her letter. She loves my painting and so she called me. We are best friend now.
How was the illustration used:
I made the 8 images a small handmade book with the mom’s hand writing. Hopefully it will accompany with the boy all his life.
How did you make this work:
I draw them by pencil on watercolor paper then colored them on ipad. The uncolored version is for adding mom’s handwriting. I chose the same perspective for all 8 pics to make a panorama. When I put them together the reader will follow the small boat go through four seasons in a dreamlike forest. It’s a flooded land but full of peaceful and fun. That is childhood.

Biography:
Vivian Fan was born in Beijing China in 1979. She got her Bachelor Degree in Ceramic Design in Beijing. She gained Chinese traditional painting skills there. In 2014 she immigrated to Canada and started to work as an illustrator. Mountain and ocean in Vancouver inspired her. Most of her illustrations are about human getting freedom in the nature. She is also looking for a fun way to pass the Chinese culture to Canadian kids.
