This illustration is inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet. When I read the part that Ophelia floating in a river, I was completely shocked by her desperation and the beautiful river scene. This is my favorite part of Hamlet. Then my drawing teacher taught us some principles about composition in class. So I used what I learnt about composition to draw this scene.
How was the illustration used: It can be used for book cover or an illustration being put before the title of a chapter. The categories of books can be poetry, play or a fiction. Also it can be used for a film poster.
How did you make this work: The whole illustration is mainly completed by the combination of watercolor and ink. Because watercolor is transparent while ink is opaque and more colorful. I used grey ink first to paint the whole paper, made the background darker. Then I used watercolor to color objects and drew details. At last, I scanned it and did some process on photoshop to adjust some details.

Biography:
Yunyao Chen, born in China, age 20, studies as an illustration freshman in School of visual arts in New York. Have been participated two exhibitions in 2019:(1) 2019 COUNCIL OF ASIAN DESIGNERS IF AMERICA DESIGN MEMO EXHIBITION; (2)OUT OF FOCUS AMIGUE INTERNATIONAL ART EXHIBITION.
