This work aims to illustrate the natural phenomenon of quantum entanglement - a subject in modern physics which has given birth to various mathematical models that predict some of the Multiverse theories. Given the complex and paradoxical nature of quantum entanglement, trying to convey such an abstract topic felt like the perfect illustrative challenge.
How was the illustration used: The intention was for the illustration to be placed in a science magazine or journal, such as New Scientist.
How did you make this work: This piece was created using hand-drawn studies of various ‘impossible triangles’ in order to produce a tangled multi-dimensional structure. Selecting interesting textures found from my broken printer and other found textures, I then integrated them into Adobe Illustrator vectors. This piece will also be hand-screen printed as a limited edition print.

Biography:
Joe McDonnell is a Sheffield based illustrator and printmaker. His work is inspired by scientific and mathematical subject matter, such as chaos theory, fractal geometry and mycorrhizal fungi. The aim is to celebrate human curiosity, and our exploration of the natural world, by using a graphic, almost diagrammatic style, to illustrate abstract theories and ideas.
