HIT THE OFF SWITCH

Editorial

Why did you make this work:
This was a commission for Women’s Health magazine. The brief was to create a woman made of wires to illustrate the article ‘HIT THE OFF SWITCH’ - “your class instructor demanding you brace the core, you've been indoctrinated squeeze, tense, hold. But muscular experts argue all this rigid thinking could be doing you - and your body - a disservice. Is it time to power down?”

How was the illustration used:
This was the opening image - a full page illustration to illustrate an article in Women’s Health magazine. Additional wires were also used to add detail to pull quotes over 2 spreads.

How did you make this work:
I began by sketching out the shape of a woman and mocked up a composition that worked well for the layout. I then built her out of a complex system of wires using Cinema 4D. I wanted to create a fun engaging image so I took inspiration from brightly coloured electrical wiring. Minimal art direction was given which left me free to explore shapes and layouts.
