Dominic Bodden
Rites of Passage

Exploration

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
This series of drawings is about Rites of Passage and their relationship to narratives of survival and endurance. A rite of passage is a marker along the journey from childhood to adolescence through adulthood and beyond. The emphasis of this work is to examine the relevance of these transitional events in contemporary society.

How was the illustration used:
This is a personal project. My plan was to produce a series of drawings about survival and the rituals of life. The images are inspired by events in my life. My goal was to create strong portfolio images that would showcase concept development, value orchestration, simplified shapes, and a clear narrative structure.

How did you make this work:
The images were created using chalk pastel, sanded paper, spray paint, and paper collage. I worked from life when possible and used reference images. I emphasized simplified shapes, scale, pattern, and traditional rendering principles.
