My Chronic Pain Diary

Site Specific

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
I created this work as a form of art therapy to better help me cope with the effects chronic pain was having on my life. Life completely changed for me and creating this illustrated diary saved me from a darkness that was creeping into my world.

How was the illustration used:
This group of illustrations were used as part of an illustrated blog that chronicles my life with chronic pain. It's intended use is to connect with other chronic pain sufferers who are experiencing the same things, as well as their loved ones who wish to understand what's going on in the lives of someone they care about.

How did you make this work:
Each illustration begins as a hand drawn image. When the outline is completed, I scan it into photoshop in order to clean it up. I also use photoshop to add colour and patterns or textures. Any pattern I use has a direct symbolic reference to the image e.g. A feather pattern represents a longing for freedom, spirals represent time moving forwards, and so on.
