Pirita Tolvanen
The Baron - Life of Jarno Saarinen

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
The Baron tells the story of Jarno Saarinen, a legendary Finnish motorcycle road racer. Saarinen’s life and career were tragically cut short, but he still managed to change the sports and its ways of driving. I wanted to tell the story to kids (both boys and girls) and honour Saarinen’s legend with joy. And to bring to life the visual motorcycle world of the 70s.

How was the illustration used:
In a non-fiction children’s book

How did you make this work:
I did a thorough background work with the motorcycles, circuits and racing suits of the time. The illustrated motorcycles are all very loyal to the original ones. And the people illustrated are highly recognizable.
