Yuanyuan Wu
Year of the Pig 2019

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
2019 is the Year of the Pig in China and I wanted to celebrate it with a set of vibrant and vigorous images of pigs using simple geometric shapes and bold blazing colours. Each illustration would be unique with respect to shape, colours and gesture. My inspiration was from the stunning scenes of Nordic nature and I wanted to merge those visions with traditional Chinese elements and motifs.

How was the illustration used:
The images are printed on red envelopes and made into filigree enamel paintings and pendants. They are also used as screensavers.

How did you make this work:
The pig represents fortune, personality and happiness in Chinese culture according to the Chinese zodiac. Each of my illustrations represents a Chinese idiom about pigs and is printed on French genuine art paper which gives it a delicate and dynamic touch experience. The images are printed on the Chinese red envelopes that are given to family, friends and colleagues as Chinese New Year gifts.
